Saudi Arabia has allocated an 88,000-square-metre site on King Abdulaziz Road in northern Riyadh for a new mosque that will carry the name of King Abdulaziz. The directive was announced on 23 September. Riyadhโs mayor subsequently said the development is intended as an integrated urban landmark and will include a library, a Quran memorisation school, a facility for washing the deceased, open courtyards and community facilities.
No project value, design consultant, contractor or procurement timetable has yet been disclosed. The scheme is therefore at an early development stage and should be monitored for architectural and engineering appointments, main construction, MEP works, specialist mosque systems, landscaping, public-realm works and associated access and parking packages as the project definition advances.
