Kuwait Accelerates Silk City Infrastructure Procurement

Kuwait has intensified procurement activity linked to the Silk City, or Madinat Al Hareer, project as authorities seek to revive one of the Gulf’s most ambitious urban development schemes amid mounting efforts to diversify the country’s oil-dependent economy.

Recent tenders linked to road infrastructure, utilities and preliminary engineering studies suggest that Kuwait’s government is attempting to restart momentum behind the multibillion-dollar northern development zone near Subiya.

Urban development analysts said Silk City had long symbolised both Kuwait’s economic ambitions and its governance challenges. “The project represents Kuwait’s desire to reposition itself as a regional commercial and logistics hub,” said one Gulf infrastructure consultant.

Contractors involved in regional infrastructure projects said Kuwait remained attractive because of its strong sovereign finances and substantial long-term spending potential. Informed sources said Asian engineering firms and Gulf contractors were closely monitoring Silk City procurement opportunities.
