Dubai awards $316mn of contracts for Al Meydan road corridor

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has awarded two contracts worth a combined Dh1.161bn ($316mn) for the development of Al Meydan Street, advancing another strategic road corridor designed to accommodate the emirate’s population and property-development growth.
The scheme will deliver approximately 17km of roads and 3.7km of bridges, together with cycling tracks and new grade-separated junctions. RTA divided the programme into two contracts to accelerate construction, although the names of the successful contractors were not disclosed in the announcement.
RTA expects the completed corridor to increase capacity on Dubai’s north–south road network by 18 per cent. Journey time between Al Manama Street and Dubai–Al Ain Road and Umm Suqeim Street is forecast to fall from 30 minutes to about 10 minutes.
The project will serve communities with a combined population exceeding 500,000, including Dubai Hills, Nad Al Sheba, Mohammed Bin Rashid Gardens, District One and Al Barari. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2028.
