Competition for QatarEnergy’s Maydan Mahzam offshore oilfield expansion has moved towards a more advanced evaluation stage, with frontrunners emerging for the multibillion-dollar EPC programme.
The project is estimated at between $4bn and $5bn and is intended to expand and sustain production from one of Qatar’s established offshore oil assets. QatarEnergy issued the principal EPC tender during 2025.
Available industry information indicates that the work has been divided into four EPC packages. The likely scope includes offshore production facilities, platforms, pipelines, subsea or marine infrastructure and modifications to existing installations.
The emergence of preferred contenders is an important step towards contract award, although QatarEnergy has not publicly announced the successful contractors. Contractor identities and package allocation should therefore remain described as unconfirmed until formal awards are disclosed.
The programme is expected to generate opportunities beyond the principal EPC awards, including fabrication, marine installation, offshore logistics, process equipment, pipeline supply and specialist engineering services.
