Kuwait has revived procurement linked to the Kuwait Metro and national rail network as authorities attempt to modernise transport infrastructure and reduce mounting congestion across the capital.
The projects include feasibility studies, engineering consultancy contracts and preliminary infrastructure packages tied to long-discussed plans for an integrated rail system connecting Kuwait City with residential districts, industrial zones and neighbouring Gulf states.
The procurement drive comes as Gulf governments expand rail and metro systems to support urban growth and lower dependence on private vehicles. Analysts said Kuwait’s rail ambitions were also linked to broader GCC integration plans involving freight and passenger connectivity across the region.
Engineering firms said Kuwait’s rail market continued to attract interest from international consortiums because of the scale of potential long-term contracts. Informed sources said Asian and European rail operators were actively exploring partnerships linked to future construction phases.
Commentators believe Kuwait’s transport modernisation programme could eventually reshape urban planning and economic development patterns across the country. Additional tenders tied to stations, rolling stock and transit-oriented developments are expected in coming years.
