Qatar has reported a sharp increase in government procurement activity, with the total value of tenders and bids issued during the first quarter of 2026 reaching QR8.6 billion (approximately US$2.36 billion).
According to the Ministry of Finance, the number of projects increased by 22 percent compared with the same period last year, while the value of projects rose by 34 percent, reflecting continued government investment across infrastructure, public services, utilities, and development programs.
The figures also reveal a strong commitment to supporting local industry. Qatari companies secured contracts worth QR6.3 billion, representing approximately 73 percent of total awards and marking a 59 percent increase compared with the first quarter of 2025. Foreign companies received contracts valued at QR2.3 billion.
The spending follows a series of major infrastructure awards announced by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), including healthcare, government buildings, transportation, and community development projects worth billions of riyals. Analysts view the figures as evidence that Qatar continues to maintain a robust development pipeline even after completing most of its World Cup-related infrastructure projects.
