Oman has advanced another major power-sector development with the award of an approximately $683 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Misfah combined-cycle gas-fired power plant.
South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility announced on 21 August that it had signed the contract with the project consortium led by Nebras Power. Doosan will work with China’s SEPCO-3 to execute the project on a turnkey EPC basis.
Under the contract, Doosan Enerbility will undertake engineering, procurement and construction works and will also directly supply key generating equipment, including steam turbines and generators.
The new combined-cycle facility will add substantial generating capacity to Oman’s electricity system as the Sultanate continues investing in power infrastructure to meet future residential, industrial and commercial demand.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2029 and is expected to create opportunities for contractors and suppliers across civil construction, electrical and mechanical works, substations, transmission connections, equipment supply and specialist power-generation services.
The involvement of South Korean and Chinese contractors also highlights the continuing participation of major international engineering companies in Oman’s infrastructure and power market.
