Twenty contractors prequalify for Bahrain Sports City stadium

Twenty contractors have reportedly prequalified to compete for the construction of a new stadium at Bahrain International Sports City in Sakhir.
The stadium forms part of Bahrain’s wider Sports City programme and the kingdom’s multibillion-dollar Strategic Projects Plan. The package is expected to involve major civil, structural, architectural and building-services works.
The names of all prequalified contractors, the estimated contract value and the bidding deadline have not yet been publicly confirmed. International eligibility is therefore unconfirmed, although the size and specialist nature of the project could encourage joint ventures between Bahraini and international contractors.
The project should create opportunities for stadium designers, structural-steel companies, façade specialists, MEP contractors, seating manufacturers, sports-technology suppliers and security and lighting companies.
What to watch: Release of the prequalified list, tender documents, bid deadline and formation of international contracting consortiums.
