Qatar’s MEEZA signs $275m hyperscale data-centre agreement

Qatar-based data-centre and managed-services company MEEZA has signed a long-term agreement worth more than QAR1bn ($275m) with an unnamed global hyperscaler, creating another major digital-infrastructure development in the Gulf.
The agreement will provide approximately 8MW of data-centre capacity under a long-term leasing arrangement and is described as the largest contract in MEEZA’s history.
The programme involves development and operation of a new data-centre campus supporting the hyperscaler’s cloud-computing and artificial-intelligence workloads. The planned facility is intended to provide scalable, resilient and energy-efficient infrastructure as Qatar expands its domestic cloud and AI capacity.
The customer has not been named, although MEEZA describes it as a global hyperscaler and one of the world’s fastest-growing cloud-service providers.
For the project market, the agreement is likely to translate into requirements for data-centre design and construction, cooling systems, electrical infrastructure, backup generation, UPS systems, networking, cybersecurity, controls and specialist commissioning.
It is particularly relevant for international technology and engineering suppliers because the anchor customer itself is international and the project is being developed specifically for hyperscale cloud and AI workloads.
