Qatar Foundation has accelerated procurement linked to Education City expansion as Doha deepens investment in higher education, research and innovation infrastructure aimed at supporting a broader knowledge-based economy.
The projects include university facilities, student housing, research laboratories and innovation centres designed to strengthen partnerships with international academic institutions already operating in Qatar. Industry executives said the contracts reflected sustained government support for education-led economic diversification.
Education specialists said Qatar continued to view human capital development as critical to reducing long-term dependence on hydrocarbons. “Education City is about building intellectual infrastructure alongside physical infrastructure,” said one regional academic consultant. “The objective is to create an economy driven more by knowledge and research.”
The procurement programme comes as Gulf governments increasingly compete to attract international universities, research institutions and technology partnerships. Analysts said Qatar’s education strategy had become one of the country’s most distinctive soft-power initiatives.
