PDO awards Weatherford three-year contract covering 274 Oman wells
Petroleum Development Oman has awarded Weatherford an integrated three-year drilling services contract covering 274 wells in the Marmul and Greater Saqr areas, representing a substantial new upstream execution programme in Oman.
The agreement was signed on 21 September 2026. Weatherford will deliver both oil-production and water-injection wells through a phased drilling programme intended to improve execution efficiency and allow PDO to plan drilling rigs, equipment and other resources more effectively across the targeted fields.
PDO said the integrated contracting model is expected to reduce costs by about 20 per cent compared with conventional pricing approaches while improving cost certainty and contractor accountability. The total contract value has not been disclosed.
The three-year programme should sustain demand for drilling equipment, well-construction services, consumables, logistics, maintenance and other oilfield support activities. The extent to which Weatherford will procure these services from third parties has not yet been disclosed, making subcontracting and supplier awards an important area to monitor.
