Oman signs Malakai tourism development agreement in Barka
Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism signed an agreement with Al Mersal Trading and Investment on 19 October 2026 to develop the Malakai integrated tourism complex in Barka, South Al Batinah, according to the ministry’s announcement that day.
The project covers approximately 800,000 square metres and is to be developed in phases. Plans include a resort with 51 accommodation units, supporting leisure facilities and 51 freehold residential villas.
The agreement establishes a development framework, not an awarded construction package. The ministry did not disclose an investment value, construction contractor or dated delivery programme.
The next milestones to watch are the phase programme, design and construction appointments, and any developer-issued procurement opportunities.
