Oman has intensified procurement linked to desalination plants, water distribution systems and wastewater infrastructure as authorities respond to rising urban demand and long-term climate pressures.
The projects include large-scale desalination facilities, advanced treatment systems and pipeline networks aimed at improving water security across Muscat and industrial regions. Industry executives said the contracts represented some of Oman’s most strategically important infrastructure investments.
Utilities specialists said Gulf governments increasingly viewed water infrastructure as critical to economic resilience and urban expansion. “Water security is becoming as strategically important as energy security,” said one regional infrastructure adviser.
The procurement programme has attracted international engineering firms specialising in desalination technologies and sustainable water management systems. Informed sources said Oman was particularly interested in energy-efficient desalination technologies linked to renewable power integration.
Market watchers expect additional procurement tied to recycling systems, industrial utilities and smart water technologies to emerge over the coming years. Commentators said Oman’s water infrastructure strategy would remain central to sustaining economic growth.
