Oman has accelerated procurement linked to Sohar Industrial Port and associated manufacturing zones as authorities seek to expand downstream industries and reduce long-term dependence on hydrocarbon exports.
The contracts include industrial utilities, transport systems and export infrastructure tied to sectors such as metals, petrochemicals and advanced manufacturing. Industry executives said Sohar remained central to Oman’s broader economic diversification strategy.
Industrial economists said Oman’s manufacturing ambitions were increasingly focused on export-oriented sectors capable of leveraging the country’s strategic location and relatively low operating costs. “Sohar has become Oman’s industrial engine,” said one Gulf manufacturing adviser.
The procurement drive comes as Gulf governments intensify efforts to localise manufacturing capacity and strengthen industrial supply chains. Analysts said Oman’s industrial policy remained more targeted and pragmatic than the mega-industrial strategies pursued elsewhere in the region.
Contractors involved in regional industrial projects said Oman’s stable investment climate and strong port connectivity continued to attract international interest. Informed sources said additional procurement packages tied to logistics and industrial automation were expected soon.
Market watchers believe Sohar’s expansion could significantly strengthen Oman’s role within Gulf manufacturing and trade networks. Additional tenders tied to export infrastructure and renewable-powered industry are expected in coming years.
