Oman Expands Mining and Minerals Infrastructure Procurement
Oman has intensified procurement linked to mining infrastructure and mineral-processing facilities as authorities seek to develop new industrial sectors beyond hydrocarbons.
The projects include transport infrastructure, processing facilities and export systems tied to copper, gypsum, limestone and other mineral resources across the country. Industry executives said the contracts reflected growing government interest in mining as a long-term diversification sector.
Mining economists said Oman’s geological resources and export connectivity offered significant untapped potential. “The country has historically underdeveloped its mining sector relative to its regional opportunities,” said one Gulf industrial consultant.
Engineering firms and mining operators said international interest in Oman’s mineral sector had increased sharply over recent years. Informed sources said authorities were also considering infrastructure tied to downstream mineral processing and export manufacturing.
Commentators believe mining could emerge as one of Oman’s most important industrial growth sectors over the next decade. Additional tenders tied to transport corridors, ports and industrial processing are expected in coming years.
