NESR signs approximately $200m Aramco lithium demonstration agreement
National Energy Services Reunited (NESR) has signed an agreement with Aramco to deliver a lithium-extraction demonstration project in Saudi Arabia, with a contract value of approximately US$200m and a term of up to five years.
Announced on 8 October, the Aramco 2027 Lithium Demonstration Project will be executed on a turnkey basis by NESR’s Environmental and Decarbonization Applications business.
The scheme will use the company’s LiThara platform to combine brine pre-treatment, direct lithium extraction and carbonation. It targets annual production of 2,000 tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate, with commissioning and the start of production planned for late 2027.
NESR said the technology conditions brine feedstock and extracts lithium through an integrated modular process. The announcement did not identify the precise Saudi location or set out a subcontracting programme, supplier eligibility requirements or bidding deadline.
