Oman has accelerated procurement linked to Sultan Haitham City, a flagship urban development project intended to address housing demand, modernise infrastructure and support economic diversification around the capital Muscat.
The contracts include residential districts, utilities infrastructure and transport systems designed to transform the development into one of the country’s largest mixed-use urban projects. Industry executives said recent procurement activity reflected renewed government confidence in long-term urban growth despite tighter fiscal conditions.
Urban planners said the project represented a shift in Oman’s approach to city development towards more integrated and sustainable planning models. “Authorities are increasingly focusing on liveability, mobility and mixed-use development rather than purely administrative expansion,” said one regional infrastructure consultant.
Construction companies said Oman’s stable regulatory environment and long-term infrastructure needs continued to attract regional contractors despite slower project execution compared with larger Gulf markets. Informed sources said additional packages tied to schools, healthcare and retail infrastructure were under preparation.
Market watchers believe Sultan Haitham City could become one of Oman’s defining urban projects over the next decade. Additional procurement tied to smart-city systems and public transport integration is expected in coming years.
