The Madinah Municipality has opened a major tender for the first phase of a programme to upgrade rainwater drainage infrastructure across Madinah, creating a new opportunity for contractors specialising in water, drainage and municipal infrastructure.
The project, valued at approximately $30 million, covers the rehabilitation and improvement of rainwater drainage networks serving major and principal roads within the urban area of Madinah. The tender has been issued as a general competition, with bids due by 5 September 2026.
The contract is expected to run for 24 months and includes work to improve the capacity and efficiency of existing stormwater infrastructure. Project information indicates that the programme includes rainwater drainage works and upgrades to existing drainage pipelines serving key roads and urban areas.
The tender represents a significant new opportunity in Madinah’s municipal infrastructure market. The municipality has been continuing a wider programme of rainwater and flood-drainage projects, including the use of horizontal drilling technology to install drainage pipelines while reducing disruption to roads and existing infrastructure.
The latest tender is expected to attract contractors with experience in stormwater networks, underground utilities, civil engineering, pipeline installation, road works and drainage infrastructure. Associated opportunities could also arise for engineering consultants, specialist equipment suppliers and subcontractors.
The project comes as Madinah continues to expand its municipal drainage infrastructure. The municipality has recently highlighted ongoing efforts to implement stormwater networks in areas that remain without adequate drainage coverage.
