Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has opened bidding on transmission and distribution infrastructure to serve the planned 2,000MW Dukhan solar power plant, in a contract package estimated to exceed $200m.
The scope is split across several packages, including construction of a new 400/220/132kV substation and upgrades to existing 400kV and 220kV substations. Bids are due by 21 August, with a combined bid bond across all packages of QR18m ($4.9m).
Dukhan is part of Qatar’s plan to reach 4,000MW of renewable generating capacity by 2030, building on the 800MW Al-Kharsaah complex and the more recently commissioned 458MW Ras Laffan and 417MW Mesaieed solar plants — bringing the state’s current renewables capacity to 1,675MW ahead of Dukhan’s addition.
