GPIC selects Honeywell for Bahrain aromatics complex
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has selected Honeywell Technologies to provide licensing and engineering services for a planned aromatics complex at its existing industrial site in Sitra, Bahrain. Honeywell announced the appointment on 12 October.
The facility is expected to produce approximately 1.2 million tonnes of paraxylene and 500,000 tonnes of benzene annually. These chemicals are used as feedstocks for products including plastics, polyester fibres and packaging.
Honeywell’s UOP scope includes licensing and engineering services, catalysts, adsorbents and equipment. The planned process configuration includes naphtha hydrotreating, CCR Platforming and the LDPX aromatics complex technologies.
The announcement establishes a technology and engineering appointment. It does not identify a contractor for the full engineering, procurement and construction package, disclose an overall investment or contract value, or set construction and completion dates.
GPIC and Honeywell have previously worked together on process technology and automation at the company’s ammonia and methanol facilities. Further procurement packages and the delivery programme for the aromatics development remain to be announced.
