The Gulf’s project market continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience despite regional uncertainty, with more than $1.26 trillion worth of projects either under execution or in the bidding stage across GCC countries.
According to regional project intelligence platform MEED Projects, approximately $943 billion worth of projects are currently under execution throughout the Gulf, while a further $321 billion worth of contracts are actively moving through the bidding process, highlighting the scale of investment being deployed across transport, energy, logistics, housing, technology, and industrial sectors.
The figures underline the GCC’s position as one of the world’s most active construction and infrastructure markets, with governments continuing to use capital spending as a key driver of economic diversification and private-sector growth.
Despite geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in energy markets, project awards across the region reached $61.2 billion during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting sustained government commitment to long-term development programs. While the total represented a decline from the exceptionally strong pace recorded in previous years, analysts note that the Gulf’s project pipeline remains among the largest globally.
Oman Emerges as a Major Investment Destination
One of the most significant recent announcements came from Oman, where authorities reported approximately $7.5 billion in new agreements linked to the Duqm Special Economic Zone and associated industrial developments.
The agreements cover a range of sectors including renewable energy, manufacturing, logistics, petrochemicals, and port-related infrastructure, reinforcing Duqm’s ambition to become one of the Middle East’s leading industrial and logistics hubs. Industry observers expect the latest agreements to generate substantial follow-on tenders for infrastructure, utilities, engineering, and support services over the coming years.
Saudi Arabia Bets Big on Artificial Intelligence
At the same time, Saudi Arabia is rapidly expanding investment into technology infrastructure as part of its Vision 2030 transformation strategy.
Among the most closely watched projects currently in the development pipeline is a proposed 6-gigawatt AI Data Centre Campus in Riyadh, which would rank among the largest artificial intelligence infrastructure developments globally if completed.
The project is expected to create significant opportunities for contractors and suppliers involved in data centers, power generation, cooling systems, telecommunications networks, cloud infrastructure, and advanced digital technologies. Industry experts view the initiative as a clear signal that Saudi Arabia intends to position itself as a regional hub for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
Shift Toward Strategic Growth Sectors
The latest project figures also reveal a broader shift in GCC spending priorities. While transport, utilities, and energy infrastructure remain major investment areas, governments are increasingly directing resources toward logistics, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.
Analysts expect the region’s procurement pipeline to remain strong throughout 2026 as governments continue implementing economic diversification strategies designed to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons and create new engines of growth.
