Dubai South has launched a new wave of logistics and free-zone procurement packages as the emirate moves to capitalise on rising regional trade and ecommerce growth. The developments, linked to warehousing, freight handling and industrial facilities near Al Maktoum International Airport, are expected to attract billions of dirhams in private and public investment.
Executives involved in the projects said the expansion was designed to strengthen Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading re-export and logistics centres. The procurement activity comes as regional trade flows continue shifting towards Gulf hubs with advanced infrastructure and free-zone incentives.
“Dubai’s long-term strategy remains centred on trade connectivity,” said one logistics consultant based in the UAE. “The emirate understands that logistics, aviation and ecommerce are deeply interconnected sectors.”
The new contracts are expected to cover warehousing clusters, automated logistics facilities and transport connectivity projects integrated with ports and airports across the emirate. Informed sources said several multinational logistics operators were exploring expansion opportunities tied to the procurement programme.
Analysts said Dubai South was becoming increasingly important as Gulf governments diversify economies around trade, services and technology rather than oil revenues alone. Dubai’s ability to integrate aviation, shipping and digital commerce infrastructure has given it a competitive advantage within the region.
