DP World deploys 17 electric cranes at Jeddah terminal

DP World has deployed 17 automated electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes at its South Container Terminal in Jeddah Islamic Port, according to reports published by Port Technology International and TradeArabia on 21 October 2026.

Port Technology puts the crane investment at US$56 million, or SAR210 million. The terminal now operates 77 rubber-tyred gantry cranes, including 50 electric and automated units.

The deployment forms part of DP World’s existing US$800 million terminal modernisation programme, which targets annual container-handling capacity of five million TEU, compared with 3.9 million. That wider budget should not be confused with the crane investment.

The reports do not identify the crane supplier or exact deployment date. The milestone concerns equipment delivery rather than a new invitation to bid.
