Full story and sources
Saudi Aramco has awarded a contract for new sulphur-handling and export infrastructure at Ras Al-Khair Port, advancing another industrial and logistics project supporting the Kingdom’s energy sector.
The project is being developed under a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) structure and will establish facilities capable of receiving, handling, forming and exporting as much as 9,500 metric tonnes of molten sulphur a day.
The facilities will provide dedicated infrastructure for handling sulphur produced from Saudi Arabia’s expanding gas-processing operations, connecting upstream and processing investment with export logistics at Ras Al-Khair.
The BOOT structure means the project extends beyond a conventional construction contract, encompassing development, financing and operation before eventual transfer of the facilities.
This should create opportunities across bulk-material handling, sulphur-forming equipment, storage, marine loading systems, utilities, electrical and mechanical works and port-related infrastructure.
The contract value was not disclosed in the accessible report, so I would not estimate it. The combination of its 9,500-tonne-a-day capacity and BOOT structure nevertheless makes it commercially relevant to industrial infrastructure suppliers and project-finance participants.
