Alfanar wins Expo 2030 Riyadh substation contract

Alfanar wins Expo 2030 Riyadh substation contract

Alfanar Projects has signed a contract with National Grid SA to construct a 132/13.8kV electrical substation for the Expo 2030 Riyadh development.

The project will form part of a wider network of electrical substations being developed to provide reliable high-capacity power to the Expo site and its associated infrastructure.

The contract was signed by Alfanar vice-chairman and managing director Sabah Almutlaq and National Grid SA chief executive Waleed AlSaadi, with senior representatives from Saudi Arabia’s energy sector and Expo 2030 Riyadh attending the ceremony.

The contract value has not been disclosed.

Expo 2030 Riyadh is planned across approximately 6 million square metres and is expected to attract more than 42 million visits, with participation from 197 countries and 29 international organisations.

The substation award provides another indication that enabling and utility infrastructure procurement for the Expo development is advancing ahead of the event.

For contractors and suppliers, the wider programme is likely to be of particular interest to companies operating in substations, transformers, switchgear, transmission and distribution systems, cabling, control and protection systems and related electrical infrastructure.
