ADNOC has awarded US-headquartered McDermott a major offshore engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract as development of the Umm Shaif field moves into another significant execution phase.

McDermott announced the award on 24 August 2026, describing it as a “mega” contract, a category it defines as being worth more than $1 billion. The contract covers Package 4 of the Umm Shaif Integrated Gas Cap and Surface Pressure Boosting Project.

The package includes complete EPCI responsibility for a new offshore surface-pressure-boosting facility, including construction and installation of a jacket and topside as well as modifications to existing offshore infrastructure. McDermott said the topside will rank among the heaviest offshore modules installed in the Middle East.

Engineering and project-management work will be undertaken from McDermott’s UAE offices, while fabrication is scheduled to take place at the Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan fabrication yard in China, highlighting the international supply chain supporting the development.

MEED reported on 25 August that the contract forms part of the wider $6.2 billion Umm Shaif Gas Cap and Surface Pressure Boosting development, for which ADNOC and its partners have selected contractors for two offshore packages and one onshore package.

The award is expected to generate significant follow-on activity across offshore fabrication, marine installation, structural steel, mechanical systems, instrumentation, brownfield modifications and specialist engineering services.
