Abu Dhabi prepares five-year pipeline of liveability and community projects

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport has launched the second phase of its Liveability Strategy, establishing a five-year framework for investment in public amenities, neighbourhood infrastructure and community facilities.

The programme will use district-level targets and a digital monitoring platform to identify infrastructure requirements and direct government capital expenditure towards priority community needs. The platform will combine asset-condition information, project-completion data and resident feedback.

Phase 2 will cover government projects as well as present and future private master developments. The department’s Urban Planning and Permits Centre will work with developers and investors to structure public-private partnerships for parks, sports complexes, recreational clubs and integrated community centres.

The programme builds on a first phase that completed more than 60 projects valued at over AED12bn ($3.27bn). Those projects formed part of a wider approved programme worth AED42bn, although no separate expenditure allocation has been disclosed for Phase 2.

Individual projects, procurement schedules and PPP models have yet to be announced. The strategy merits continued monitoring for design and planning appointments, landscaping, sports and leisure facilities, community-centre construction, technology systems and privately financed social-infrastructure opportunities.
